Welcome to the High Heat Fantasy Baseball League! The League Rules will be set each year by the day of the draft, and locked in for that season. For any situations that might arise during the season that conflict with those rules, or might not have been absolutely clear about, the Commish will make the final decision on the matter. Any rules changes that are voted on by the league will be in place by the start of the next year's draft. The League will be held on CBS Sportsline for team management, scoring, and standings.
I. LEAGUE RULES/LAYOUT
Each Team Owner is required to meet the basic guidelines of ownership in this league:
----- Attendance of all League DRAFTS
----- Required to pay League Fees ($95) by the agreed upon date
----- Required to submit legal lineups each fantasy week
----- Required to participate in all League activity
----- Required to meet the submission deadline of keepers
Failure to comply with the above basic guidelines of ownership would constitute your team being considered 'dead' and will result in expulsion from the league, without a refund of fees, and your team will be replaced. As a rule, once you pay your entry fees and draft, there will be no refunds paid back if you decide to leave or want out of the league so that a new owner can easily be found.
There will be 14 Owners, or Teams, split up into the National League and the American League. Seven (7) teams will make up the NATIONAL LEAGUE, and seven (7) teams will make up the AMERICAN LEAGUE. During the draft, each owner will start off with their 10 keepers, or 12 if they choose (***see below ***), from the previous year for 15 Rounds. Each team will have no more than 17 MLB players in the active lineup on any given week. Any player not in the active lineup must be put on "Reserve" status, as long as the total number of players on the roster does not exceed 25 (28 if three players are on the DL - see "Injured Players" section below).
Each owner will also draft Amateur players to develop his own 'Farm System.' Each team will have 15 designated spots on his roster for their farm system. Each owner is not forced to keep a full 15 Amateur players in his Farm System at any given time, but can not exceed the 15 total players, or your team will receive an 'illegal lineup'. These Amateur players can NOT be used in your active MLB lineups each week unless they are 'Called Up' to your 25 man MLB roster. Once an amateur player is 'called up' to his team, you can NOT send him back down to your farm system. Farm system players can be kept in your minors for as long as you want, but once the player makes his actual major league debut, you must move him up to your 25 man roster within one (1) year or he will become a free-agent. Once your player is called up, he is placed on a 'Protected List.' He does not have to be declared as one of your 10 keepers, but he will have to maintain a spot on the 25 man roster. He can only be on the 'Protected List' for a maximum of 2 seasons (regardless if they are partial or full seasons played). These 'Protected Players' will serve as 'Bonus' keepers as an added bonus for an owner's research and hard work scouting. Amateur Players called up into protection will NOT count against your KEEPERS each year. Once they lose their protection status, they must be declared as one of your KEEPERS if you want to keep them on your rosters or be lost to Free-Agency.
During the Off-season, your MLB roster may exceed the 25 total man limit by way of Draft or trade. There are no restricitons to being over the limit in the offseason. Your team will only be expected to be trimmed to at least 25 MLB players, or less, before the start of each weeks games, which is during the regular fantasy Season. Otherwise, your team will receive an 'illegal lineup' and receive zero points for that week. Your team may also pick up additional picks in the draft by way of trade allowing your team to possibly go over the 25 MLB man limit. Since this would occur in the offseason, there would be no penalty. Remember, as long as your MLB rosters are at the 25 total man limit or less before the start of that team's games each week, there would be no penalty.
Your weekly lineup must have the following positions assigned properly with the eligible player at that position . . . .
C - 1
1B - 1
2B - 1
3B - 1
SS - 1
OF - 3
Utility - 2
SP - 5
RP - 2
. . . . for a total of 17 active players. HighHeat Baseball recognizes mulitiple position eligibility depending on CBS Sportsline, and how many starts they make at a certain position. During the season, all MLB players will remain eligible at their initial designated position (pre-season - at least 15 games played at a position from the season before to qualify), and will also be eligible at any position at which they play at least 10 games in for the current season.
**NOTE** The 7 total pitchers you are required to activate in your weekly lineup must contain 5 SP's, and 2 RP's. The RP position may be a closer, set-up man, or long relief pitcher (as long as they are eligible at RP, some SP's may be also eligible at RP to use in this spot).
II. SCHEDULE/PLAYOFFS
The fantasy regular season will run for 19 weeks, during which, each team will play three (3) weekly (Monday-Sunday), head-to-head matchups for a total of 57 games. Six (6) teams will make the High Heat World Series playoffs - three (3) from the National League and three (3) from the American League. The High Heat Playoff System spans over 7 total weeks to determine the League Champion. From the National League, there will be the Divisional Winner and two (2) Wild Card teams. The American League will have the Divisional Winner and two (2) Wild Card teams. Both of the Divisional Winners will receive a first round 'bye'.
Tiebreakers:
The Divisional Winners will be determined by overall records first, then by divisional record, then by head-to-head record. If two (2) teams in a division are still tied after that, overall points scored for the season will be used to break the tie. The Wild Card teams will be determined the same way for each division.
The first (1st) round of the playoffs will last one week. The two Wild Card Teams from the NL will be matched up against each other, while the two Wild Card teams from the AL matched up against each other. The winner of that Wild Card game will move on to play its Divisonal 'bye' Winner in a 'best-of-3 series' to determine the NL and AL Division Champions. The National League Champion will advance to the High Heat World Series Championship Game against the American League Champion in another 'best-of-3 series', for a total of 7 weeks worth of playoffs to determine the HighHeat League Champion. The two teams that didn't make it to the World Series will also play in a 'best-of-3 series' to determine 3rd and 4th place.
III. FREE AGENCY
Once the Spring MLB draft is complete through May 31st, any un-drafted player is eligible for free-agency pickup as long as that player is in the Sportsline database. This includes players that are actually in the minors, so long as they are in the database on CBS. From June 1st until the end of the July Amateur Draft, only free-agents with MLB experience can be acquired via Free-Agency. No player that is eligible for the July Amateur Draft can be picked up after June 1st as courtesy to other league owners that may want to draft that player. After the Amateur Draft through the end of the HighHeat regular fantasy season, any available player in Sportsline's database is once again available in free-agency.
Once the end of the HighHeat regular fantasy season has been reached, all free-agents will be locked down, and no pickups will be allowed for any team. Playoff teams will have to use their rosters as of the deadline of the end of the regular season (the Sunday at midnight before the day of the playoffs begin) to make it through the playoffs.
IV. INJURED PLAYERS
Three (3) slots will be designated for the DL spot on your team roster. If a player becomes "Injured" and is placed on the DL by CBS Sportsline, that player's status on your roster may be changed to "Injured" and you may pick up another player without receiving an illegal lineup/roster requirement penalty (see **NOTE** below). You may keep that player's status "Injured" as long as that player is on the DL as listed by CBS Sportsline.
**NOTE** Any player placed on a team owner's DL slot that has not been recognized by CBS Sportsline as officially being "Injured" and placed on CBS Sportsline's DL listing will recieve a notice from the Commisioner demanding that the player in question be removed from the team owner's DL slot within 24 hours of written notice. If the team owner does not comply within the 24 hour period, the Commissioner will manually reverse the team owner's last transaction involving the "Injured" player in question and the free agent player, if any, that was added during this incident.
As soon as that player is removed from CBS Sportsline's DL status listing and is activated to play in a MLB game, you will have until the end of the scoring period from which he was activated off the DL to change his status from "Injured" to either "Active" or "Reserve". At that time, you will have to drop a player to meet the league requirement of 24 total players on your team roster (excluding DL spots).
**NOTE** You will NOT be required to drop the player you originally picked up while placing an "Injured" player on your team's DL. Any player will be sufficient. As long as a player has been removed from your team roster before the following week's deadline for submitting an active lineup (each Monday - before the first game of the week starts).
V. KEEPERS
Each owner will be allowed to keep 10 players from their final roster of the previous season. The 10 players that you keep may be any 10 players that you choose. You will be given an 'option' to keep an 11th player, but will lose your 1st round pick in the MLB draft if you choose to keep the extra player. The remaining players will be added back into the player pool and will be eligible to be drafted by any team owner. On January 1st of each year, all owners will get their 25 man rosters e-mailed to them. They will then have 14 days, or until January 14th, to select their keepers and have them submitted back to the commish. If a team's keepers are not selected by the deadline, the team will be considered 'dead' and that team replaced with a new owner.
VI. DRAFTS
All Amateur Player Drafts will be held in a Non-Snake format and will be held here on this board. All Drafts will use a 12-hour time limits between picks. The timestamp on each owner's posts will serve as the 'official' clock. Once the Draft Day and Time have been established, and the Draft starts, the official clock for picks will run from 6:00 a.m. CT until 12:00 a.m. midnight each day. The 12-hour time limit between picks will be strictly enforced. If an owner misses the 12-hours, two penalties will occur. First, that owner will forfeit that pick and will not be able to make it up until the end of the draft. Second, that owner will then be placed on an '8-hour' time clock with his next pick. If that owner misses the 8-hour time limit at any point past that point in the draft they will forfeit that pick and be placed on a '6-hour' time clock. If that owner then misses the 6-hour time clock, his team will then be considered dead and he will be removed from the league and a new owner will be found to replace him. Once an owner selects the 'Submit' button, the pick is final and no changes can be made even if the next owner has yet to pick.
The draft order will be determined by CBS Sportsline's Power Rankings from the league's final regular season standings. In these Power Rankings, each team is given a 'score' based on three (3) categories - Overall Record, Total Points Scored, and Breakdown. You can find this chart on our Sportsline site under the 'Standings' tab, and then select 'Power.' The Commissioner will send out a notice listing the day, date and time of each draft date.
MLB Draft
The MLB League Draft will be held in early March of each year and consist of 15 Rounds. It will be held on CBS Sportsline's site through their Draft Room. If an owner allows their 12-Hour time clock to expire, that owner 'loses' that pick, it is forfeited, and can not be made up. No owner should 'burn' an entire time clock down because an Owner can queue up players in the Draft Room and Auto-pilot can be selected by that owner if they will be away from internet access for a while.
AMATEUR Draft
We will hold two Amateur Drafts each year. A 4-Round Draft in Febuary, and a 2-Round Draft in July (All-Star Break). Any player is eligible for the Amateur Draft as long as they have NO MLB experience. Players from the minor leagues, college baseball, high-school, or foreign countries are all eligible to be drafted. Once your 15 man Amateur roster is full, you can still participate in the draft but you will have to release a player before you can make another selection. Once you pass on your selection, you can not re-enter that draft.
An Owner can NOT pick up a player that is Amateur Draft eligible, meaning he has no MLB experience, and put him on his MLB roster during the actual Amateur Draft. Each owner must wait until after the draft has completed to pick up any Free Agent players on their MLB rosters that have no MLB experience, as long as that player is in CBS' database.
If an Owner allows the 12-Hour time clock to expire, that pick is forfeited and can not be made back up. No owner should allow the full time clock to expire, as anyone in the league, including the commissioner, can make the pick for the owner. You must make your picks within the required 12-hour time clock when your pick comes up. A rule of this league is active participation, and to be present at all League Drafts. Picks can always be left with the commissioner to make for them when their pick comes up, or another owner may make the pick for them if they will be away from internet access for an extended period of time.
If an owner selects a player that is on another owner's roster, or, selects a player that is NOT Amateur Draft eligible, it is considered an 'illegal pick', and that owner must re-pick an eligible player As Soon As Possible. The Draft will continue if an 'illegal pick' has been made with the next owner up in the Draft placed On the Clock, and it is the owner's responsibility to make the pick up in a timely fashion.
***NOTE*** The Draft Order for the July Amateur Draft will be decided by the current Standings up until that point by using the current 'Power Rankings.'
VII. DIVISION ALIGNMENT
The Draft Order will determine Divisional alignment each year. The Even number owners in the Draft order will be placed in the American League Division. The Odd number owners in the Draft order will be placed in the National League Division.
VIII. TRADES
Owners may choose several different ways or combinations to trade in the league. Owners may trade players for players, players for draft picks, or any combination of the two. Only picks from the next years draft from the season you are playing in may be traded, no future picks from beyond the following season's draft. Please remember that other owners may value certain picks/players or pick/player combo's than you might when voting. Only trades that concede an obvious collusion attempt should be vetoed. Please also note that by trading picks, until the next season's draft order is posted, which will be posted after the end of the season, you will not know the exact position in the order that you will be gaining.
For In-Season Trading, once two teams reach an agreement on a trade, the remainder of the league owners will vote whether or not to accept or reject the trade as is. ***Any objection to a trade must be accompanied by a reason stated on the league message board for all owners to see***. Only the number of objections that match the number of reasons given on the message board will be accepted ( i.e. if there are 5 objections and only 4 owners state the reasons why they objected, then technically only 4 objections will count ). If a trade reaches six (6) official objections, it will be VETOED. Otherwise the trade after the 48-hour voting period will be processed. The trade deadline for In-Season trading will be 2 weeks before the start of the playoffs. No trading will be allowed from that point until after the playoffs are over.
For Off-Season Trading, once two owners agree on a trade, they will both e-mail the commish the trade for confirmation. Then, the commish will e-mail all league owners to inform them of the trade. There will be a 48-hour time period after that in which owners can send back objections to me with their reasons. If 6 objections are not reached by that 48-hour time period, then the trade will be processed. If 6 official objections are submitted to the commish, the trade will be VETOED. Off-Season trading will be closed two (2) full days before the draft to give the commish time to adjust any picks that were traded. ***Off Season trading will NOT be allowed during the keeper turn-in deadline period. The commish will let all owners know of this dead time. After keepers have been turned in, the commish will re-open trading***.
All Trades that include picks will be posted on the 'Open Trades' Thread and used as the reference for the upcoming draft to show all 'new' positions in the draft order that were traded. The Commish will update the Open Trades thread.
If a trade puts you over the roster maximum of 25 total players, you will have until the end of the scoring period that the trade was processed in to correct it and get it under the 25 players. If you do not correct it by the beginning of the next scoring period, you will forfeit all games during that scoring period you are in default with.
